“Moody Bible” by Nicole Miglis

from her self-titled and self-released EP, available via Bandcamp

This is definitely the first album of the year that I’ve fallen immediately and unquestioningly in love with. I don’t want to degrade it with useless descriptions. Listen to the EP in its entirety.

Thank you, Nicole.

I will note that she also fronts Gainesville, FL’s Hundred Waters. Sometimes I miss Florida terribly, not the birthplace of myself but rather my fixation upon sound and phrase.

Thanks to IGIF for bringing this to my attention.

The poem:

In a crowded room, in a damp box
Stood a man in white with foggy eyes
He said, “I am here to show you all,
I have ten fingers that are proof
That this god that we all fear
Is right above our roof”

And then he fixed ten thimbles
To each prophet of truth
Stood atop a coil and pointed to the roof
Ten veins of light cut through the dark
Ten veins of truth
Ten streaming through the black
Ten bright and pure as youth

“These are the hands of god
These are not my own
These are strains of faith
These are flares of signs”

This is gospel truth
Don’t ask me how
For praying has no answer
And yet how many pray

How many who?
